One may watch videos on Youtube showing us people with superpowers. For example, a man brings his hand up to a piece of paper and the paper catches fire; a fencer repels a tiny bullet with a sword.
If we attempt to repeat (copy) their actions, nothing will come out of it. We can bring our hands as near the paper as possible – it will not burn. Why? Because we do not possess enough energy to make the miracle happen. It is not a matter of performance technique; it is actually just a matter of energy. We can copy the outward form of the actions, but we cannot replicate their inner essence – it remains a mystery to us.
With the burning of the paper, this is quite obvious. However, in other cases this may not be so obvious. For instance, millions of people repeat the outward forms of the movements in yoga or qigong, but do these movements always create the flow of energy that these forms actually exist to create? And if not, then these movements developed by Masters of the past remain a profound mystery to us.
But let us put yoga and qigong aside for the time being and take a look at something more ordinary. For example, the multitude of self-development practices – from morning jogging to training in mindfulness. To master any of these practices, some level of energy is required. If it is not sufficient, then training at best will be useless, and at worst it will bring about health problems. Yes, regular morning jogging can increase one’s level of physical energy – but first one needs to have enough energy to start and to sustain the practice. Otherwise, that same morning jog may actually reduce one’s energy level.
The level of energy in many ways determines what we are able to achieve in this life in a variety of areas. Why, for example, do practices such as NLP work for some and do not work for others? The difference is in the energy level! Why are some able to perform the practice of mindfulness described in the books, while others are not? The energy level! What determines the level of sexual attraction of men and women? First of all, their level of energy; and only then their external beauty and other factors. Why can one person build a business, while another fails? Again, the reason that is in the first place is the level of energy! Even just to relax one needs to have a certain level of energy; and the higher the energy level, the better we tend to relax.
Every day of our life we make big and small decisions and take big and small actions. These decisions and actions can be made by us in a state of sufficient energy or insufficient energy. An external observer will not always be able to tell the difference, but we always know exactly what state we are in – although we do not always pay attention, and even less often do we do something to change that state.
If we want to grow, to achieve our goals, then the first and most important commitment which we must make is to maintain our level of energy. Every day, every hour, every minute of our life. Make this our first priority. Change our lifestyle so that energy does not get drained. Avoid situations where there is a deficit of energy or at least learn not to take important decisions in them. Make the effort to return to normal energy levels when they are low. And make this the 1st priority in our life.
Seems simple? But it is actually not simple at all. We are all born with different levels of energy. There are those who are born with an abundance of energy and who can do almost anything while still keeping their energy at a high level, or at least restoring it quickly enough. The rest, who were not so lucky, have to take care to maintain their energy level. They need to invest effort and time into the task of raising their level of energy to its maximum, even if that maximum is still within the limits granted to each of us from birth.
But it pays off. All of a sudden, the practices begin to work. And goals begin to get achieved. And life gets better. And maybe one day one would bring one’s hand up to a piece of paper, and the paper will catch fire…
